UCM is currently transitioning from what it had been in the past to....whatever you want it to be! We are currently trying to identify what UCM's niche on campus is, and where it needs to go in the future. If you have interest in the group, or in a Christian group with focuses on peace and justice issues, please feel free to contact Brandn or one of the student leader (info on the Contact page). |
| | Distance from Campus: | < 10 minute walk | Mission Statement:
The covenanting members of United Campus Ministry are called by God and empowered by God's ever present spirit to a ministry of love, reconciliation and service in our academic community. While each of the congregations follows its own faith statement, all find common ground in the conviction that the life and teachings of Christ form the basis for our united ministry. All of our traditions affirm the worth of each human being and each of us under-stands our need to be sensitive to the sufferings of humankind and to be agents for justice and peace. We covenant together to be a channel for the life-giving presence of God in our community.
Our purposes are:
- To proclaim the Christian faith in ways which challenge students, faculty, and the larger community to define and clarify their own faith commitments.
- To provide a pastoral and prophetic ministry to all members of the university community, especially students.
- To offer varied and ample opportunities for worship, study, prayer, and examination of values.
- To offer opportunities to put faith into action through various human service projects.
- To be a voice for openness and reconciliation among the diversity of people and ideas, which is the University.
- To give leadership and visibility to the social goals which are inherent in the Christian faith-humanness, equality, justice, peace and the integrity of creation.
- To engage in a continuing dialogue with one another about personal faith under-standing, goals, and purposes so that we may grow in vision and speak with integrity and authority both to the covenanting congregations and to the academic community serviced by United Campus Ministry.
| Vision Statement:
United Campus Ministry represents several Protestant denominations on the main campus of Penn State University. In the spirit of love and reconciliation, we find unity in the midst of vast differences through the life and teachings of Christ. In this capacity, we serve, welcome, respect, and value every individual regardless of denomination or religious affiliation. We are here to be agents for justice and peace. We are here to enrich minds and empower spirits.
